Hi stranger! I see you’re taking a look at this corner of the Web.
I decided to write down this notice because I felt that this site isn’t going the way I intended. This text will probably become a permanent page in my website, to serve as a sort of reference point for it’s future.
You might be thinking, “What are you trying to say? Why write a *notice* explaining some changes in your website? It’s yours after all. I don’t care about it!”
And yes, you’d be right about that. It is a side project I had tried to advance for some time (maybe 4 months?) but that I have also eventually abandoned.
I started aetherspace as a new project, a way to practice and learn some HTML, after getting to know more about Neocities and the Web Revival movement. I loved spending hours online when I was younger, and even though I’m not very old (I’m old enough I guess?) the 2000’s Web has an important place in my mind and in the way I look at the world even to this day.
I didn’t grow up in the 90’s. But I like the Internet and the Old Web and the ruins of it many of us have searched for beneath the dystopian virtual (and physical world) we are now living in. The Web as it once was is slowly dying. I think we have a chance to continue creating and surfing through mind-melting virtual landscapes and cool communities that the Internet and even other services and protocols allow us to keep.
I feel this place doesn’t reflect what I wanted to make out of it. Maybe I am as much of an empty, uninteresting, bad taste, lazy ass entity as aetherspace; it might be a good reflection. But thinking like that is not very useful, so I try to look at it in a more constructive way. This is one of the reasons I am writing this, and planning to change stuff in this site in the near future.
This project is not over and it won’t be, as long as it has some presence in my life and in the web. And I hope that the experience of mantaining this site is a nice and valuable one.
I built this aetherspace to try something new. What will you try tomorrow?
